Our Members Asked:
What are human growth hormone (HGH) supplements? What are the benefits? Are they safe?
Answer:
Human growth hormone (hGH or HGH) is a substance that the body secretes to promote the growth of children and teenagers. After full growth is reached, it is not clear what role growth hormone plays in the body. Nevertheless, since levels of HGH decline with age, HGH supplements are sometimes promoted to slow signs of aging. These supplements do not actually contain HGH, which is a very large molecule and must be taken by injection. Instead, “HGH” supplements, as well as nasal sprays are intended to stimulate HGH secretion or enhance its effects. There are also ways to naturally increase human growth hormone, such as exercising, and getting a good night’s sleep (J Appl Physiol, 1999; J Clin Endocr, 1969).
There are four types of supplements advertised for this purpose, all of which are administered at varying doses:
- HGH Releasing Agents (also called “HGH enhancers” or “HGH stimulators”)
- Homeopathic HGH
- Nanogram Strength HGH
- IGF-1 Enhancers
