Zaarah Herbal Powders Recalled Due to Lead, Arsenic Risk
On March 10, 2025, New York Wholesale Group recalled Zaarah Herbals Rasayan Churan, Zaarah Herbals Gurmar Powder, Zaarah Herbals Vasaka Powder and Zaarah Herbals Bhringraj Powder because they have the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead and arsenic.
Exposure to lead, even at low levels, is associated with neurological impairment, and in children, learning disabilities and lower IQ scores. Lead can accumulate in the body over time. Symptoms of lead toxicity include abdominal pain, headache, changes in blood pressure, dizziness, kidney and brain damage. Arsenic is a carcinogen and can damage organs.

Zaarah Herbals Bhringraj Powder is promoted for hair growth (see ConsumerLab’s article about supplements for hair loss), and its Gurmar Powder, which is labeled as containing Gymnema sylvestre, is promoted for supporting healthy blood sugar levels (see ConsumerLab’s article about supplements for lowering blood sugar). The company’s Rasayan Churan is promoted for urinary tract health (see ConsumerLab’s Review of Cranberry Supplements and article about supplements to reduce nighttime urination) and its Vasaka Powder is promoted for respiratory health.
Recalled Zaarah Herbals supplements (see product photos) are packaged in clear 100g (3.5oz) jars with a gold lids and were distributed to retailors in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California between 12/20/2024 and 01/07/2025. They can further be identified by the following:

- Product name: Rasayan Churan, Batch No.: RY 04, Mfd. Date: July/2022, UPC: 6 35028 99966 3
Consumers who have purchased recalled Zaarah Herbals are advised to return them to the retail location where the purchase was made for a full refund.
