Muscle Tech Alpha Test Recalled
On December 18, 2024, Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc. recalled 163,248 lots of Muscle Tech Alpha Test capsules because they contain cathine, a controlled substance that can cause serious adverse effects.
Muscle Tech Alpha Test is promoted as a “testosterone booster” and is labeled as containing ingredients such as fenugreek extract, shilajit, boron citrate, and tribulus. (See ConsumerLab’s article: 10 Supplements That May Boost Testosterone (And 13 That May Not).
Cathine (also known as pseudonorephedrine), is an amphetamine with psychoactive and nervous system stimulant effects. It is a constituent of the khat shrub (Catha edulis) and is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance. It is not approved for medical use in the United States. Cathine can cause anorexia, increased alertness, increased sensory stimulation, hyperthermia, increased respiration and heart rate, rise of blood pressure, constipation, urine retention, mood changes and seizures (DEA 2020).
Recalled Muscle Tech Alpha Test products are packaged in black labeled plastic bottles and were distributed to North Carolina, California, Texas, New Jersey, Virginia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Indiana, New York, California, Illinois, Mississippi, Kentucky, Michigan, South Carolina, Washington, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Delaware, Louisiana, Tennessee, Missouri, Utah, Georgia, Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Arizona, Oregon, along with other foreign distributors. They can further be identified by the following:
- Product: Muscle Tech Alpha Test (120 count), 12 bottles per case
