Toxic Herb Found in More Weight Loss Supplements
On December 13, 2024, Motivate Me Ashley, LLC recalled the following VidaSlim brand products: VidaSlim 90-day (Original Root, Root Plus, and Root Capsules), VidaSlim 30-day (Original Root, Root Plus, and Root Capsules), VidaSlim 7-day Sample Size (Original Root, Root Plus, and Root Capsules), and VidaSlim Hot Body Brew (Strawberry and Peach flavors). FDA laboratory analysis confirmed the products contain yellow oleander (Thevetia peruviana), a toxic herb.
Yellow oleander can cause severe adverse health effects and potentially be fatal. It contains cardiac glycosides that are highly toxic to both humans and animals. Yellow oleander can cause neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, changes in heart rhythm, and other adverse effects.
Recalled VidaSlim supplements (see product photos) were promoted for weight loss and sold through direct sales via independent distributors.
All of the products have an expiration date between 12/24 and 12/25 and can be further identified by the following packaging descriptions:
- VidaSlim 90-day Original Root: White bottle measuring 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide with a green label
- VidaSlim 90-day Root Capsules: White bottle measuring 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide with an orange label
- VidaSlim 90-day Root Plus: White bottle measuring 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide with a blue label
- VidaSlim 30-day Original Root: White bottle measuring 2 inch tall and 1.5 inches wide with a green label
- VidaSlim 30-day Root Capsules: White bottle measuring 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide with an orange label
- VidaSlim 30-day Root Plus: White bottle measuring 2 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide with a blue label
- VidaSlim Hot Body Brew (in peach and strawberry flavors): Black pouch measuring 11 inches tall and 6 inches wide
- VidaSlim 7-day Sample Pouches for Original Root, Root Plus, and Root Capsules: Silver pouch with green, blue, and orange labeling respectively
Recalled products were sold on the company’s website. Consumers who have purchased recalled VidaSlim products should discontinue use and return them to the place of purchase.
