5 Star Nutrition Will Pay $4.5 Million for Selling Misbranded Workout Supplements
According to the U.S. Department of Justice news release, the company admitted to introducing three misbranded dietary supplements, Epivar, Alpha Shredded, and Laxobolic, into interstate commerce from September 2018 to July 2020. According to the plea agreement, the products, which were promoted as workout supplements, contained ingredients mislabeled as dietary ingredients, or ingredients not listed on product labels.
Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton states, “Consumers deserve to know what is in the dietary supplements they take. We will continue to investigate dietary supplement manufacturers and distributors who sell products that do not comply with the law, including through criminal enforcement where appropriate.”
As a result of the plea, 5 Star Nutrition LLC must forfeit $4.5 million and follow the terms of a compliance program, as well as certain compliance reporting requirements.
