Five Leaf Pet Botanicals Warned by FDA for Drug Claims
On June 22, 2023, the FDA issued a warning letter to Five Leaf Pet Botanicals, Inc. following a review of the company’s websites that found statements about the company’s Canine Heart Tonic, Hawthorne Tincture, HeparaCleanse, and Rena-Cleanse products to be drug claims.
For example, Hawthorne Tincture products were promoted with statements such as, “Overall Hawthorne helps the heart pump more easily, but with more force and protects the heart from any future damage.”
Rena-Cleanse products were promoted with statements such as, “Our formula contains herbs that will kill ANY urinary infections, clean and repair the kidneys and it is also a diuretic.”
Hepara-Cleanse products were promoted with statements such as, “We have seen dogs with sinus infections, skin infections and ear infections that recovered after ONLY one month of kidney and liver flush programs.”
In addition, these products were found to be adulterated because they are unapproved new animal drugs.
The company is required to notify the FDA in writing of the specific steps taken to correct the violations within fifteen working days of receipt of the warning letter.
