On June 7, 2023, Procaps S.A. de C.V. issued a voluntary recall of various lots of Laboratorios Lopez’s Bacaolinita 8 fl. oz children's liquid vitamin supplement because it contains undeclared PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil.

There is little safety data on the oral ingestion of PEG-40 in people. However, PEG-40 can interact with some medications and cause hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis in sensitized individuals.

Recalled Laboratorios Lopez’s Bacaolinita is promoted as a liquid vitamin supplement for children, including vitamins A, B-12, D and niacin. The products were distributed through retail stores and online in Delaware, Rhode Island, Texas, and California. Bacaolinita supplements (see product photos) are packaged in a dark amber plastic 8 fl oz bottle, which is packed in a cardboard box. Recalled products can be further identified by the following:

Consumers who purchased affected Bacaolinita should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
