EarthLab, Inc. Warned for Promoting Curcumin, Elderberry to Treat Pain & Flu
On November 10, 2022, the FDA issued a warning letter to EarthLab, Inc., dba Wise Woman Herbals following inspection of the company’s website which found statements about the company’s products to be drug claims because they suggest the products can prevent or treat disease.
For example, the company's Green Tea Extract was promoted with statements such as, “Drinking three cups or more daily can reduce stroke risk by as much as 21%…” Other products such as Turmeric Gold Capsules were promoted as, “a great option for those looking for a natural alternative to over-the-counter pain relievers.” The company also promoted its Elderberry Plus Syrup to treat the flu, Healthy Prostate for decreasing inflammation of the prostate, and PSA Capsules for preventing cancer.
In addition, the FDA found these products to be adulterated because the company failed to follow certain current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).These violations included failing to establish a specification for every stage in the manufacturing process where control is necessary to ensure the quality of its dietary supplements and failure to reject dietary supplements that did not meet specifications.
EarthLab, Inc. is required to respond to the FDA in writing within 15 days of receipt of the warning outlining the specific steps taken to address any and all violations.
