Homeopathic Nasal Spray SnoreStop Recalled Due to Microbial Contamination

On June 9, 2022, Green Pharmaceuticals Inc issued a voluntary nationwide recall of one lot of its SnoreStop NasoSpray, a homeopathic nasal spray promoted to reduce snoring, due to the presence of Providencia rettgeri, a bacterium that can cause severe illness in some people.

In immunocompromised patients, Providencia rettgeri could result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as bacteremia/sepsis, pneumonia, invasive fungal rhinosinusitis, or disseminated fungal infection. In non-immunocompromised patients, infectious complications could respond treatment.

Recalled SnoreStop NasoSpray (see product photos) contains a combination of homeopathic ingredients including goldenseal root powder (Hydrastis Canadensis) and belladonna, and is promoted to stop or reduce symptoms of non-apneic snoring. It is packaged in one single unit plastic bottle packaged in a clear transparent plastic box with the name SnoreStop. The recalled lot number is 2372/21222 (2373 is printed on a sticker placed on the bottom of the bottle and 21222 is on a sticker placed on the outer packaging).

Affected products were distributed nationwide in health food stores and online. Consumers and retailers that have recalled SnoreStop NasoSpray should stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase. To date, Green Pharmaceuticals Inc has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recalled lot.
