Energy, Fat Loss Supplement Recalled For Ephedrine Alkaloids
On August 28, 2012, dietary supplement re-sale distributor Brand New Energy (BNE) issued a recall of EphBurn 25 after FDA testing found the product to contain ephedrine alkaloids. Ephedrine is a stimulant used for weight loss, appetite suppression and as a decongestant, and its alkaloids are associated with adverse effects such as elevated blood pressure, rapid heartbeat, nerve damage, muscle injury, stroke seizure and death.
While no adverse events have been reported in connection with EphBurn 25, consumers who have purchased this product should discontinue use and consult their healthcare provider if they have experienced any of these symptoms. The recall includes all lot codes and "use by" dates of EphBurn 25, which was sold in retail stores nationwide and online from approximately April 2010 to August 2012.
