ConsumerLab.com testing quality of Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Saw Palmetto supplements; web site becoming popular reference for consumers
WHITE PLAINS, NY, December 8, 1999 — As part of its ongoing independent evaluation of health, wellness, and nutrition products sold in the U.S., ConsumerLab.com announced that it is now testing Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Saw Palmetto dietary supplements. This announcement comes just three weeks after ConsumerLab.com released of its Ginkgo Biloba Product Review, in which one quarter of 30 leading products failed testing.
ConsumerLab.com is testing 26 leading glucosamine, chondroitin, or combination products and 21 Saw Palmetto products. Consumerlab.com purchased these products from traditional and online retailers, as well as direct mail and multi-level marketing companies. The contents of the products are being tested to determine whether they meet quality standards and label claims for ingredient composition and quantity. Results will be reported in four to six weeks at www.consumerlab.com.
"Judging from the many messages of thanks received from consumers and healthcare providers, ConsumerLab.com's list of Approved Products is becoming a popular reference on the quality of specific brands," commented Tod Cooperman, M.D., ConsumerLab.com's president. "In addition, we are receiving requests from manufacturers and distributors of products not originally tested to have their products tested through our Ad Hoc Testing Program. With more categories of products being evaluated, and more brands being tested within each category, it is exciting to see ConsumerLab.com's unique database expand rapidly."
Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements can find out if their products are being evaluated by contacting Lisa Sabin, Vice President, Business Development, at lisa.sabin@consumerlab.com. Requests for the testing of additional products through Consumerlab.com's Ad Hoc Testing Program can also be submitted to Ms. Sabin.
