ConsumerLab.com announces first test-based buyer's guide to dietary supplements; Manufacturers encouraged to have products tested for potential inclusion.
ConsumerLab.com conducts the largest independent testing of dietary supplements sold in the U.S.— where such products are not regulated as drugs and many have been shown to be of questionable quality. To date, approximately one-third of the products purchased and evaluated by ConsumerLab.com has not met its quality standards. The Buyer's Guide will feature ConsumerLab.com's test results and Lists of Approved Quality Products for most of the popular types of dietary supplements sold in the U.S., including calcium, chondroitin, CoQ10, creatine, echinacea, garlic, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, glucosamine, multivitamins, SAMe, saw palmetto, St. John's wort, and vitamin C. The Buyers Guide will also provide detailed information about each approved product and its manufacturer or distributor.
ConsumerLab.com is in negotiations with several companies regarding publication and distribution rights and expects the Buyer's Guide to be available by year-end in supermarkets, drug stores, health food stores, bookstores, and through direct mail.
Manufacturers Invited to Have Products Tested:
While the majority of popular brands of supplements are already being evaluated in ConsumerLab.com's testing, manufacturers of additional products in the categories listed above are invited to have their products tested for potential inclusion in ConsumerLab.com's Lists of Approved Quality Products. This additional testing is conducted through ConsumerLab.com's Ad Hoc Testing Program in which products are independently purchased and tested by ConsumerLab.com at the request of manufacturers that pay a testing fee.
