On January 28, 2009, ETHEX Corporation, a subsidiary of KV Pharmaceutical, announced a nationwide recall at the retail level of all strengths of Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets (25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg and 200 mg).

FDA Finds Fault with Generic Toprol XL -- Problems Reported Earlier by ConsumerLab.com
On August 12, 2008, the U.S. FDA sent a letter to Sandoz Inc. warning of violations in its manufacture of Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets and other drug products. Sandoz's Metoprolol Succinate ER tablets are generic versions of Toprol XL.

As reported in the New York Times on June 24, 2014, certain lots of the blood pressure medication metoprolol succinate extended-release have recently been recalled. The recalling manufacturers are the Indian companies Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Wockhardt.
