Our Members Asked:
How does white tea compare to green tea and black tea in terms of antioxidant catechins? How about caffeine levels and lead contamination?
Answer:
White tea is made from the same leaves as green tea, but picked at a less mature stage. When brewed, white tea tends to provide comparable amounts of catechins (although, according to one study, much lower antioxidant activity overall), lower amounts of caffeine, and is less likely to be contaminated with lead than green tea. Bear in mind, however, that there can be considerable variation from product to product. For more details about how teas differ, see the "What to Consider When Buying" section of the Green Tea Review >>
