Cats claw extract capsules in a bowl on a table

Answer:

Based on effect seen in laboratory studies, cat's claw is promoted for numerous conditions, including arthritis (including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), Alzheimer's disease, viral infections, boosting immune response to vaccination, reducing side effects of chemotherapy, and improving cancer-related symptoms. However, as discussed below, there does not appear to be any convincing evidence from clinical studies supporting the use of cat's claw for any indication.

Was surprised to read that there is little data on the effectiveness of cat's claw,(Uncaria tomentosa) as it is very often recommended by many of the chronic Lyme experts. I worked up to taking many capsules daily. As to whether I found it to be helpful or not, it's hard to say, as patients like myself are often taking more than one herbal supplements at once. Now I am sometimes hearing that Osha root is very helpful. Is this a supplement that you are considering rating?

I tried cat's claw for arthritis, and it didn't seem to be effective. However, my three trigger fingers, which occupational therapy and cortisone shots did little to remedy, stopped getting stuck in bent positions and flexed freely with cat's claw. I initially didn't credit the cat's claw with the dramatic results, but when I stopped taking it, the triggering returned. I went back on it, and the triggering abated. I was very surprised, since there was no supporting clinical evidence.I have no financial interest in cat's claw.
