Herbal Supplement Recalled Due to Undeclared Drugs
On September 18, 2024, 123Herbals LLC issued a recall for all lots of Vail-Bon Jie Yang Wan capsules, which are promoted to treat eczema and other skin conditions, because they contain undeclared dexamethasone and chlorpheniramine.

Dexamethasone is a prescription corticosteroid drug that has the potential to cause severe and serious adverse events including adrenal suppression, a disorder in which the adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones, and other adverse events, which can lead to death. Depending on the dose, these adverse events may be severe and even life threatening. Sudden discontinuation of dexamethasone can also cause potentially dangerous withdrawal symptoms.
Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine available in several over the counter products (OTC). Use of tainted Vail-Bon Jie Yang Wan capsules could lead to a higher dose of chlorpheniramine than is typically used, which could potentially cause overexcitement, loss of coordination, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, and seizures.
Vail-Bon Jie Yang Wan capsules (see product photos) are packaged in 30-count plastic bottles and promoted to treat skin disease, eczema, and itch and they were distributed nationwide on 123herbals.com and online retailers including Amazon. The recall includes all lot numbers and expiration dates for this product.
123Herbals is notifying its distributors and customers by emails and is arranging for returns of all recalled products.
Consumers and retailers that have Vail- Bon Jie Yang Wan should stop using and/or return to the place of purchase, discard, or contact their doctor. Consumers and healthcare providers can report any adverse reactions to the FDA's MedWatch Voluntary Reporting Program.
