Glucosmamine, chondroitin and MSM are popularly used for treating osteoarthritis -- the most common type of arthritis. But ConsumerLab.com found 4 supplements we reviewed and rated to be contaminated with lead, 2 of which also contained little (6% or less) of their labeled chondroitin.  All of the lead-contaminated supplements contained glucosamine, which is derived from shrimp or crab shell and has the potential to contain lead.  Our joint health supplements review also found one of the contaminated supplements to fail to break apart properly in disintegration testing.  Mislabeling of sodium content was the reason for a fifth supplement to fail the joint health supplement review.

Glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM may reduce symptoms by helping to maintain and repair cartilage.  This test report includes a review of glucosamine supplements, chondroitin supplements, and MSM supplements as well as reviews of combination products.

You must subscribe to get the full test results for glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM supplements along with ConsumerLab.com recommendations and quality ratings. You will get results for 21 supplements selected by ConsumerLab.com and for 17 others that passed voluntary certification testing, as well as information about two joint health supplements similar to ones that passed testing.
