Seller of CBD Tinctures, Creams & Pet Products Promoted for Pain, Cancer & More Warned by FDA
On February 11, 2022, the FDA issued a warning letter to Rena’s Organic following a review of the company’s social media and website, which found statements about the company’s 300 mg CBD Full Spectrum Oil Cannabinoid Tincture, 600 mg CBD Full Spectrum Oil Cannabinoid Tincture, 1500 mg CBD Full Spectrum Oil Cannabinoid Tincture, 1000 mg CBD Anti-Aging Beauty Cream, 500 mg Pain Relief Cream, and 1000 mg Pain Relief Cream products to be drug claims.
Statements from the company’s website and social media promoted its products for uses such as fighting cancer, Alzheimer’s, and opioid addiction. For example, blog posts from the company’s website contain statements such as, “Cancer-Fighting Capabilities . . . recent studies have shown that CBD can act as a direct antitumor agent for a variety of aggressive cancers and can even prevent the spread of cancer cells in the body,” “At Rena’s Organic… I want you and your loved ones to have an alternative to risky and debilitating pills and opioids,” as well as “CBD has various neuroprotective effects that have shown effectiveness against neural cell damage related to various neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s…”
In addition, the agency found CBD Super Cider and CBD Super Food to be adulterated, and all products were misbranded because they do not contain adequate directions for use. Rena’s Organic For Pets 300mg CBD was also labeled an unapproved new animal drug because it was promoted as a treatment for pain, vomiting and seizures in dogs.
The company is required to respond in writing to the FDA within 15 days outlining the steps taken to correct any violations.
